Corbett is no stranger to Grosvenor-run events having finished fifth in the 2011 edition of the GUKPT Blackpool Main Event, finished 10th in the 2016 Goliath and having won a 25/25 Series tournament in Manchester in 2015. That last result was Corbett’s largest score at £16,685 but now he has blown that out of the water after winning the £1,100 GUKPT Blackpool Main Event.
Twenty-five players returned to the action for the final day of the £200,000 guaranteed tournament, each having locked up £2,200 for their efforts thanks to the money bubble bursting during Day 2.

The money bubble popped when Andreas Olympios three-bet all-in with king-jack after Mitch Johnson had opened the betting with a raise. Johnson called with ace-queen and stayed ahead throughout the dealing of the community cards, even catching an unneeded ace on the river.
Despite its name, The Poker Room is part of the Grosvenor Casino chain and is actually located above one of London’s famous casinos the Grosvenor Victoria Casino – known as ‘the Vic’. This poker-orientated casino is open 24/7 and is a great place to experience many different poker variations, cash games, and even poker tournaments.
Olympios bust in 31st place and opened the door to the cashier’s cage for the likes of Renee Xie, Chris Johnson, Grosvenor-sponsored pro Jeff Kimber, Richard Kellett, Tom Hall, Matt Davenport, and former professional footballer Anthony Gardner; Johnson ultimately fell in 10th place to burst the final table bubble.
2017 GUKPT Blackpool Final Table Seating
Seat | Player | Chips |
---|---|---|
1 | Robert Boon | 477,000 |
2 | Ronald Musson | 360,000 |
3 | Chris Wood | 971,000 |
4 | Simeon Zacharias | 829,000 |
5 | Danny Corbett | 1,250,000 |
6 | Stuart McNally | 461,000 |
7 | Robert Cummings | 219,000 |
8 | Gary Whitehead | 982,000 |
9 | Patrick Fahy | 733,000 |
Ronald Musson’s tournament ended with a ninth-place finish when he moved all-in for 10 big blinds with six-four of diamonds and couldn’t improve enough to crack Corbett’s kings then Corbett sent Stuart McNally to the rail when he had the easiest call of the tournament. McNally moved all-in with a pair of queens and Corbett snapped him off with pocket aces.
Seventh-place went to Patrick Fahy when he committed his six big blind stack with ace-six and Chris Wood called with king-queen. Wood spiked a king on the flop and when the turn and river were void of aces, Fahy headed to the exits.
Robert Cummings then became the first player to collect a five-figure score when he was awarded £11,300 for finishing in sixth-place. Cummings was low on chips when he made a move with ace-deuce only to run into the dominating ace-nine of his opponent. The community cards didn’t come to Cummings’ rescue and the player count reduced by one.
The final five became four in a hand that ultimately shaped the outcome of the tournament. Robert Boon raised to 150,000, Wood moved all-in for 700,000 only to see Corbett cold four-bet. Boon ducked out of the way, Wood showed a pair of black sixes and Corbett revealed a pair of black aces. Corbett improved to a set on the flop and saw his stack swell to 2,400,000 as Wood made his way to the cashier’s desk.
A coinflip then claimed the tournament life of Simon Zacharias. Boon opened to 225,000, Zach pushed all-in for 1,000,000 and Corbett came over the top with a 1,500,000 all-in bet. Boon asked for a chip count before folding, leaving Zacharias’ pocket eights to race the ace-king of Corbett. It was a race that Corbett won courtesy of an ace on the flop.
Almost immediately after Zacharias’ exit, Gary Whitehead lost his stack to Corbett. Whitehead was all-in for 1,200,000 with ace-queen against the king-seven of clubs in Corbett’s hand. A seven on the flop gave Corbett the lead, then Whitehead paired his ace on the turn, but Corbett caught a king on the river to send the tournament into the heads-up stage.
Corbett held a 4,000,000 to 2,100,000 lead over Boon and it didn’t take long for Corbett to push home his numerical advantage. The final hand saw Boon open, Corbett three-bet shove and Boon call. It was queen-jack for Boon against the ace-four of Corbett. Boon improved to a pair of jacks on the all-spade flop but Corbett paired his ace and improved to a flush on the turn to lock up the hand. The inconsequential five of diamonds completed the board and a delighted Corbett was crowned 2017 GUKPT Blackpool Main Event champion.
Next up for the GUKPT is the £400,000 guaranteed Grand Final at the poker room formerly known as The Vic. This exciting tournament takes place between Nov. 19-26 and satellites are available now online at Grosvenor Poker where you can claim a 200 percent up to £700 first deposit bonus when you create your account via UK & Ireland PokerNews.
